Sounds like you need to investigate psychology programs that deal with art therapy. I have a friend who has been doing it for years. What is the most important thing you look for in a dancer?

One of my favorite quotes is "Dance first, think later, it's the natural order", it means get lost in the music & dance from your heart not your brain. I think passion is the most important thing for a dancer to have. You can have huge leaps, tons of pirouettes, perfect fouettes, but none of that looks truly beautiful unless you look like you love what you do. Everything you said is VERY important but none of that matters unless you have the passion to make all those qualities shine.

How would I get started learning to dance in the style of pop music choreography?

I am very interested in the type of dancing that occurs on-stage and in music videos of the likes of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, etc. Their backup dancers are mainly male and the choreography is just so cool to watch, I would love to learn how to actually do it. Input on putting my dog down?

Our family dog, Scooter, was struck with vestibular disease last year. He's 14 years old and is on his last limb. He has a bad leg which makes his walking even more unstable. He somewhat drags it from time to time. He has accidents constantly and he can't be left home alone for more than around three hours because of it. He still eats and has a love for food, but yet a majority of the time he just looks depressed. Maybe it's because we can't give him constant attention anymore since we don't have time. His sister is extremely healthy compared to him and we expect her to last at least a couple more years. But the rest of the family is talking about putting him down. I can tell there's still some happiness left in him...but..I'm just not sure about anything. With the accidents, falling down, bad leg (which he chews constantly making it bleed), arthritis, and everything else...maybe putting him down is the best thing to do. I'm 50/50 on it. I love him to death and I can't imagine ending his life unnaturally...but then again, he's taking a toll on our family and I have no idea how happy he is or how much pain he is in...

For your emotion you should be almost determined. And I think you should do jazz like that'd be pretty cool! If there are any sections in the song where there's a really intense beat that's the same for like an 8 count you should do al secondes or fuettes because that always looks good! And another move you could do is like a pirouette (triple or double) and do like a drag/attitude out of it and place that leg behind you into the splits. I used to dance jazz and some of the more flowing moves like those in jazz seem to go well, like the person dancing in the dust in her music video. I want to learn a type of dance but I don't know what it's called?

Music videos often have hip hop or street jazz in them. It can also just be commercial dance, Almost all basic western world dance starts with ballet classes.That is where you build basic technique to do other forms of dance. The dancers you see dancing in music videos have all had ballet training first. At least to be able to be at the level they are at. If this is just for fun then look for a hip hop class. Street jazz really requires some ballet training to excel in that.

Relieving soreness for a short period of time?

I've been practicing my dance choreography for about a whole week, having 8 hour sessions on the weekends, and 3 hours of practice on weekdays, i've been completely sore this whole time i've been practicing due to not working out. I will completely rest after the performance (tomorrow) is done. But for now, i am focused on performing at my best, without the pain, is there any way i can relieve the soreness by tomorrow? Is it bad for being this sore and not relaxing as much?

I'm 13 years old and I am a girl. My parents are very strict and are very quick to punish me. I am not allowed to run in the house, speak slang, or talk to them in a disrespectful manner. I must address them correctly at all times (ex. Yes Ma'am, No Sir, Mother may I please...etc.). If I don't I'm punished by 10 strikes on my bare-butt. I'm a very respectful girl and very respectful to my parents and I'm very obedient to them. I was just wondering if you think that this punishment is appropriate?

I like my best guy friend?

So the guy i like just came to our school at the very beginning of the year. When I first saw him, I thought he was really cute and I liked him. But I thought that i should just kinda forget about it because he was REALLY quiet and seemed stuck up.(Sounds cheesy, I know) So at lunch my friends and I would try to sit near his table just to be near him...even though i still didn't know him. So, I am doing a solo competition piece for my dance school coming up in several months and I desperatly need to get started. I have a few ideas, but I would like some opinions. My first idea is the song La mariposa by the powder kegs, like doing really weird choreography, like what you would never expect to see en pointe, like creepy arm movements and weird poses, and then maybe breaking out into a series of really clean, sharp deboules and chenees. I need help with my dad making me do martial arts?

i've been doing korean martial arts for six years and i just received my black belt (cho dan) with months of hard work. he's basically been forcing me to go for the past years, he even did martial arts after me, hes now been doing it for four years. we've discussed this before but he just hates the idea that i don't want to do it anymore or even that i just want to do it less. it makes me so angry and sad that this art takes up most of my during school days to do other things like maybe do homework at decent time. as a matter of fact i want to learn other martial arts even. at my studio we do lot and lot of forms and robotic defensive techniques and knife defenses where they attempt to strike you with one technique and stop for you so you can do whatever you want to them. i've sparred with my friends who have minimal training and lose. dad tells me that when i become a dan i start to realize the applications of forms but does it seriously take 6 years of training to learn how to defend yourselves. i know you have to imagine opponents but it comes nothing close to the real thing. i want to become the worlds best martial artist but i think i need far more diversity of skills. we live far from our dojang so as soon as we get home from school i have to get ready and leave. my dads just an angry guy, idk i guess i have no choice but to be a shrimp and just give up my dreams and have no skills in combat but i would really appreciate it if my problem can be solved some how.

Some time ago my grade school son was accused of striking a teacher , meeting with the school staff to avoid suspension my son had a psychologist recommended by the school to find out what's wrong (he did not display this behavior at home) long story short the teacher reporting this bad behavior was physically abusing my son by kicking him in the back , on one occasion he fought back in the same manner which prompted the teacher to use the system to punish him. At the school meeting prior to the school recommended psychologist sessions, the teacher who did this revealed herself and her level of rage by acting very defensive to the embarrassment of the school board members. After this incident I lost all faith and trust in school staff , I felt they knowingly lied about the situation. The details not mentioned by this teacher with other children as victims and witnesses came out in a full report to the school. My son is almost thirty now , but I'll never forget that lying teacher . From what I've seen and heard across the country and the corruption going on with school officials and the wasting of funds they deserve to lose their collective bargaining rights. Please post your experiences with out of control school staff , and always question school authorities for the facts. If your kid's school calls you and says your kid hit a teacher and the police were not called something is already wrong.

Question about choreography/dancing?

Just ask your mom if you could take a hip hop class at a local studio (she'll be really impressed if you already have a studio in mind). Since it's summer, it's a good time to try new stuff to see if it works out and you'd be able to pull it off during the school year. Auditioning...How difficult is the transition?

If you can pick up on choreography fast, they wont care about your experience that much. However, it isn't as easy as it looks. The skill of picking choreography up fast takes years to hone. It comes from doing it in class over and over again. That is really the only way you get skill in it. It does come more natural to some people than to others however. It is worth a try to see how easy it is for you.

Is it easy to get back into dancing?

I would try a beginner level class in what ever style you want to try again and see what you remember. It might take a year or so to get your muscle memory back and it might take a little more time then it did to pick up on choreography, but that too will improve as you get back into it.

How can I have more energy when dancing?

Sounds like you need more stamina and endurance. This was my exact problem, but with other styles of dance too. I suggest starting to go running or at least jogging. I even jump rope and do lots of jumping jacks. Make sure to eat healthy energetic foods and keep hydrated. Over a period of time you're definitly going to start seeing results like i did. And as weird as this sounds, I plan my breathing with my dance. As in, there may be certain pauses or easy steps in the choreography allowing me to take a deep breath and regain the energy.

People who came to see the musical said I was one of the better dancers, even when i was saying i wasnt. but you see i have this problem where i always freeze up during auditions for things like principal dancers. We will go over the dance and everything but it takes me longer than everybody else to learn the dance so i basically fail at any auditions because i forget the steps. It's really embarrassing and it really sucks because i know i could be a great principal dancer if i only didnt fail the freaking audition. I've never taken any dance classes but i do have natural rhythm and i definitely dont suck, even though i would say im even close to the best. So basically how can i get faster and better at learning dances so i dont fail so much? This is the first year ive done any kind of dance btw

I am a hip hop dancer and every day when I wake up something inside me just wants to bust into choreography, I have also acted in alot of things inculding a main role in an all ireland final irish play. i stopped sppech and drama when I was nine I am now 14 coming 15 and a lot of people have said to me "you're an amazing actress" and "I wouldn't be surprised if you were an actress when you are older", but the problem is, is that I thank them and all but something inside me just doesn't believe them and replies back "but I'm not". How to walk in wedges?

Wedges are a lot lot easier to walk in than high heels. I think I still strike the ground with my heel first but obviously I don't put all my weight on the foot until the sole is completely on the ground. Keep your tummy tucked in and shoulders back so you're walking straight and you'll be fine.

AWOL from basic training?

Im a 23 year old female. I joined the army and during week 4 of training while i was in the gas chamber i was struck in the chest multiple times by the drill sgts. For the following next few days i went to sick call and complained of chest pains pressure the whole shebang. Anyhowm everytime i went they gave me medicine for allergies because apparently fort jackson is known for pollen. So one night i could no longer bare it i was on the floor screaming in pain and buzzing the drill sgts with no answer. I set off the alarms and ran downstairs banging on the ds door and he came out cursing and yelling. He eventually brought me to the hospital and i sat in a chair for 11 hrs before a doctor even saw me. he again prescribed ibuprofen and clairitin and i begged for bloodwork. he agreed, withing 45 minutes i was in an ambulance off post where i stayed for 5 days. I had damage consistent with a heartattack and a cardiac contusion (bruise on my heart) myocarditis. I also had Supraventricular tachycardias while i was in the hospital. So when i was discharged the army sent me home on 30 days con leave. When i got back my company was about to graduating i was forced to do everything with them although i wasnt feeling up to it and i was not training. i had to do shitty details but nothing compared to when we got switched over to the holdover company. We were in the scorching heat painting sweeping the concrete policing the hills it was ridiculous from sun up to sun down we were working. One day i had BAD chest pain so i went to sick call. Although i was on a dead mans profile and although i was awaiting a discharge and i told her of my pains and previous history she took me off profile and sent me on my way with an icepack and ibuprofen. when i got back to the company i snapped, i put on my civilians and took off running. Ive now been home for almost 45 days. Im scared to go back because i dont want jailtime, what should i do?

What is ballet like..is it boring and how hard is it?

If you want to do it, do it. It's never too late. Honestly, ballet is my life and i wouldn't know what to do without it. I'm 14 too, in the highest level at my ballet school and company, and it makes me feel strong and invincible. I promise you it's not boring. Since youd be just starting out you'd be placed in a simpler level, so it might be slow, but just know you must cover the basics before you become a serious dedicated dancer. Who knows? You might be a natural. I started out pretty late, at age 7 and everybody else in my classes started at age 3. It kinda came naturally to me too and I skipped multiple levels. Maybe that's what will happen with you too. You never know until you try, so follow what your heart tells you to do! Good luck :)

I wouldn't trust anybody teaching Kyokushin at blue belt level even if it is only 30%. He is still claiming to know Kyokushin well enough to teach it. There is definitely something wrong with that even if he has black belts in other close or not so close related arts. To be a teacher even at first Dan is a little questionable and would tell me to proceed with caution unless he is under the very close supervision of his own instructor, close enough to teach in the same dojo or close enough his teacher visits him regularly and checks out the students he teaches.

Hughes may win games, but stuff wise I think he projects as a career middle of the rotation pitcher. Haha that's how I am too I remember watching myself on video of my freshmen choreography and thinking, "am I mental?" that's how bad I looked. Then I asked the coach if I could bring a video camera to practice to tape the dance. I went home and watched my dance and practiced it making sure ik what I was doing. ( I taped it from behind so that I wouldnt get messed up with my lefts and rights.) after practicing it many times I came back to the next practice and knew the dance a lot better. From then on Ive taped every new choreography and have picked up on it a bit quicker then the last time. Hope this helps!

My yearling (horse) bites and kicks!?

Your yearling sounds exactly like mine did. He is a rescue and had very bad manners. It was to the point that we could not even go into the pasture. One time he reared up and came down on my husbands shoulders and nearly killed him. In January one of my horses coliced. When the vet came out to see him, Rocket was up to his old trick. He was really showing out. So when he took my colicky horse to his hospital, I sent Rocket along too thinking that gelding him would do the trick. WRONG! So I went to my local coop and ask this lady that worked there if she knew of someone who could take him and teach him some manners that wouldn't break me. That afternoon a young man called and told me that not only was he a trainer, but also a farrier. Rocket's feet looked horrible and he refused to stand for the farrier. So I let this young man take him to his farm for three weeks. He worked with him every day and when he brought him home, I thought it was someone else's horse. He is now very calm, stands for the farrier, no longer bites or kicks. I have had a life-long affiliation with horses, but to this day I don't know how to get them to behave, at least with situations such as this one. I strongly suggest you find someoone who has experience with yearlings and send him for some lessons in good manners. Believe me, you will never be sorry for doing this, you will be very thankful. Well, in 2008, I thought he was deserving of the MVP. Sure, he strikes out 200 times a season and bats about 220, and he can't field for sh!t, but his 40 homers arent too shabby. How to know if you're a good dancer and choreographer?

I'm 16 and I started dance at the beginning of my school year (15) & I fell in love with it! I've never taken classes just school dance but I'm really good at picking up the choreography and I want to know how do you know if you're any good? Is there anything to determine that? Another thing is how do you know if you're a good choreographer? I can hear a song almost any one and movements just flow out of my body I don't know how to describe it, it just comes out. Even when I'm listening to a song it's like the whole dance flashes in my mind and I copy it exactly. I'm not a person who's taken dance lessons before. Is it possible that it's just my love for dance? Or does anyone who dance go through this?

Explain to your mom that going to school today would have been a waste of everyone's time; none of your teachers were there, and you could just as easily have read a book at home. Don't lie, just have your mom write the letter saying you didn't go in because of the strike. If you get in trouble, bring your parents in and have them talk to whoever is punishing you. If that doesn't work, suck it up and serve your detention or whatever just to placate the school. Honestly, I would've done the same thing if most of my teachers were striking or otherwise off-campus; at that point, all the school is doing is just large-scale babysitting.

Hi i'm 17 and I'm going to be auditioning for a summer dance in about a month and I'm getting a ltitle nervous on what I should expect to happen at the audition. How should i get well ahead of the game, working out, stretching, self training, advice, and positive self esteem tips? What kind of choreography will be expected and what do they usually look for? Should I join lyrical and/or hip hop? (pro's & cons)?

You can most likely catch onto hip hop better than lyrical, if having no expirience at all prior to the class. Hip hop is more of an upbeat, mellow, let loose style, whereas lyrical has to be maintained and controlled. If you don't have the flexiblity and technique, you can't really pull it off to make it look good. With lyrical you may want some classes involving ballet to prep you, as far as technique goes. If you have the musical sense, than hip hop would be your best bet. Hip hop will always be fun, so I'd say do that!

Okay…Im a Sophomore in High school and I really want to dance. Like really dance. For A hobby whatever. I want to dance. I never have dance professionally (if you call it like that). Playing around with friends whatever yeah but i never had help or trainers i guess to teach me. Snow tires on a summer cross country road trip?

I'm moving from the West Coast to the South - where studded tires are illegal. My summer tires are bald, so I'm thinking of pulling the studs out of my winter tires and using those. look i don't want to get into a fight i really don't i have been holding back for half an year now and finally it summer holidays and i can collect my thoughts. i have joined this school half an year a go and they somehow nailed me as a nerd since i bother doing my work instead of wrestling with the teacher and chatting and playing on my phone. so they start picking on me. really i also made friendly on the people they call nerds one is in my class really not popular with the school but one thing that strikes me confused is that it seems like he almost encourages it i try protecting it and the bullies of the school make fun of me for doing so and he just laughs with them not to mention he acts sort of weird so really i won't add up to me being angry because of him i will just let him do what he wants and if he wants me to help him he can always just ask. oh and here is another thing i forgot to mention i am very big i am nearly the size of my dad (doubt i will finish growing at his height if i get my height from my mom) and i think i am strong enough to take there leader on. i have another friend he is considered a nerd yes but every body likes him and he is very much considered a politician if you take us and try seeing our skills i will be a strategist and he would be a diplomat. anyway as he puts it we are in group and those group has leaders he is the leader of my group (did i mention my school is small there are 6 people in my class and that is the average amount of a class) and the leader of the group that drives em mad is ishai he is very small and considers himself stronger then me really i never cared how strong i am until i came to this school. so thought this summer i will learn a martial arts but i have this question to all you senseis should i get into a fight with deliberately wait it since he won't stop picking on me until i beat him and i have a limit usually push away anger to a far corner of my mind but even i have a limit i won't fight him at school courses if he provokes me i will go to a teacher but i am wworriedfor out of school since if he manages to provoke me out of school and i get a bit too angry i won't aim to beat him sadly i will aim to beat him i will aim to kill him. you might think i aexaggeratingthat i should not get angry but everyone has a limit i am not a guy with anger issues i know how to control my emotions but as i said everyone has a limit.
